Some Prayers you may wish to use

Some for the present Crisis

For our government

(based on a prayer used daily in the House of Commons)

Lord, the God of righteousness and truth,
grant to our Queen and her government,
and to all in positions of responsibility,
the guidance of your Spirit.
May they never lead the nation wrongly
through love of power, desire to please,
or unworthy ideals
but laying aside all private interests and prejudices
keep in mind their responsibility to seek
     to improve the condition of all people;
so may your kingdom come and your name be hallowed. Amen.

For those caught up in a terrorist incidents:

(based on a prayer from Southwark Cathedral)

‘In the midst of life we are in death.’
Lord, terror struck, again death has come.
Hold us in our shock and grief,
comfort the distressed,
heal the injured,
calm the anxious,
reunite the separated,
console the bereaved,
and give rest and everlasting peace to those who have died,
for your love never fails
and through the darkness your light always shines.

 For peace and safety amid unrest

O God, who would fold both heaven and earth

in a single peace:

let the design of your great love

lighten upon the waste of our wraths and sorrows:

and give peace to your Church,

peace among nations,

peace in our homes,

and peace in our hearts:

through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ.

For justice

Living God,
deliver us from a world without justice
and a future without mercy;
in your mercy, establish justice,
and in your justice,
remember the mercy revealed to us in Jesus Christ our Lord.

A prayer for those facing persecution and terrorism

O Lord God,
your Son Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his resurrection
he restores life and peace in all creation.
Comfort, we pray, all victims of intolerance
and those oppressed by their fellow humans.
Remember in your kingdom those who have died.
Lead the oppressors towards compassion
and give hope to the suffering.
Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

Prayers for our own lives

Dear God, You know me. Don’t you?
I’m not just a person on a bus or a train.
I’m not just another face on CCTV;
or just another login name.
I’m me, and I have stuff going on.
Love life issues; bills to pay.
Egos at work to deal with;
an overflowing inbox.
So please, give me strength.
Guide me to focus on what’s really important.
And help me make the most of every moment
of this new day in this month in this year. Thank you.
God of the ages,
you are the beginning of our journey
and our strength as we pause along the way.
Hold us by the hand as we grow,
show us where to seek you,
and guide our steps that we may find you.
Give us devoted hearts that we may love you,
and your peace when we reach our journey’s end.
